1. Overview
In the fall of 2012, Belton High School began a 1:1 initiative. Students are issued an iPad for school and home use during the school year. We are very excited about the enhanced education that our students are receiving as a result of this initiative. This year we are implementing online textbooks in Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Systems. In addition, we are using a Learning Management System which enables electronic communication of assignments between our instructors and students.
2. Usage Fees
Students pay a $20.00 non-refundable usage fee. This fee covers the insurance for the iPad and does not cover damage to the Otterbox case. If there are damages to the iPad, students will pay a $50.00 deductible for the first repair and will be responsible for the full cost of subsequent repairs. The usage fee can be paid at school using cash or check. It can also be paid online via PayPal.
3. Protective Covering
The iPad must remain in the school issued Otterbox at all times. Students are responsible for the care of their Otterbox case. Fees for damage/loss to the Otterbox are as follows:
Silicone - $10.00
Protective shield – $15.00
Power brick and cord - $20.00
- Otterbox case - $35.00
The online verification paperwork must be completed in Skyward before an iPad will be issued. The Student Pledge for Digital Learning Devices is in Skyward included in this paperwork. This pledge states both the financial responsibility and also the Belton ISD Mobile Device Guidelines. (Pledge available for download at bottom of page)
Pledge Highlights
- I will follow Belton ISD’s Student Technology User Agreement and the Mobile Computing Device Guidelines.
- I will never leave the iPad unattended or loan my iPad to other individuals.
- I will arrive at school with my iPad fully charged.
- I will protect the screen cover from scratches, food, and beverages since they may cause damage to it.
- I will keep the protective cover intact.
- I will not disassemble or try to repair any part of my iPad or attempt any repairs possibly voiding the warranty.
- I will protect my iPad by storing it in the protective cover provided by the District.
- I will install the district’s mobile device management system and keep it installed on the device.
- I understand that my iPad is subject to inspection at any time without notice and that it remains the property of Belton ISD.
- I will return the iPad issued to me to the BHS campus at the end of each school year. If I withdraw, am suspended or expelled, or terminate enrollment at BHS for any reason, I will return the school-issued iPad on the date of termination.
- I will file a police report within three days in case of theft or vandalism and give a copy of that report to the student’s AP.
- I will report a lost device to the campus technology facilitator within 3 days.
. Mobile devices will be distributed to students at the beginning of the school year. Parent Orientation Meetings are conducted at the beginning of the school year. Meeting information is posted on the BHS iPad information web page. Additionally, parents will be informed as to when the devices will be collected at the end of the school year. In order to receive a device, students and their parents must do the following:
- Complete the online verification and sign the pledge in Skyward. (Required)
- Pay the $20.00 insurance fee and any fines from the previous year. (Required)
- Attend the parent information meeting (Optional)
6. iPad Use in School
iPads are intended to be used at school on a daily basis. Students are responsible for bringing their devices fully-charged to classes on a daily basis, unless specifically instructed not to by their teacher. It is the student’s responsibility to save, manage, and back-up their files.
Internet Access - On campus, all devices access the internet through a filtered server. Students must adhere to the district’s Acceptable Use policy as outlined in the Student code of conduct. To the extent possible, the filter monitors all internet sites that students attempt to access and blocks inappropriate sites; however, it must be noted that no filtering software is 100% accurate and may not block all information that may be deemed offensive or unsuitable by parents.
Digital Literacy - Students are given lessons in Digital Literacy. These lessons are posted on the BISD Technology Service web page.
Inspection - District mobile devices are subject to inspection by a BISD staff member at any time. Students have no right to privacy on the district-issued device.
BYOD - Students are allowed to bring their own iPad2 or iPad mini. Students will be provided with school distributed apps.
7. iPad Use at Home
Internet Access - Students are provided devices with Wifi capability. When connecting to the Internet outside of school, students must understand they are still using school equipment and the rules and policies still apply. Students are expected to follow all BISD policies wherever they use their district-issued mobile devices. The BISD filter works on BISD campuses. It does not work on the student’s home internet or other wireless hot spots. Parents are encouraged to monitor their student’s internet use.
Tips for Parents:
- Designate a place for the iPad to charge at home.
- Stay involved in your child’s online world by limiting screen time and monitoring who your child is communicating with.
- Monitor your child’s images.
- Educate yourself on the latest threats facing kids online (cyberbullying, sexting, etc.) and talk with your child about being a good digital citizen.

Students Withdrawing from Belton ISD
Students withdrawing from Belton ISD Schools for any reason must turn in their student mobile devices before their last day of attendance.
